As a longtime Brawl Stars player, I still get chills when I think about the Dark Sands season that Supercell unveiled in its February 2025 Brawl Talk. Now, in 2026, with the game having evolved through more updates, I want to revisit that magical time machine ride to Ancient Egypt. It was a season that promised the best brawler ever, teased a canine-headed god, and delivered a pyramid full of surprises.

The Theme: Ancient Egypt and a Mysterious Pyramid

The official poster showed Meeple, Ollie, and Ruffs trapped inside an Egyptian pyramid. The trailer featured Ash, Moe, and Grom collecting ancient treasures before a mysterious force dragged them into the pyramid. The silhouette on the Brawl Talk thumbnail looked like Anubis, the Egyptian god of the underworld, with a canine head. Or maybe a cat? Ancient Egyptians worshiped cats, and it could have been a new friend for Kit. The stream confirmed Ancient Egypt as the main theme, and I was hooked.

The official Brawl Stars stream was my source of info about the Egyptian Season and new brawlers. The developers were pretty clear about their plans, so there was no need for leaks. I took every hint seriously, and the reveal did not disappoint.

New Brawlers: Finx and Lumi

The Brawl Talk revealed not one but two new characters. Finx was not Anubis himself, but he wore a cupboard mask of the ancient god, and his name referenced the Egyptian Sphinx. His basic ability shoots three projectiles at once. His Super is exceptional: a jump back in time, returning Finx to his position three seconds ago and recovering his weapon state from back then. He joined the game a bit later in the season.

Then came Lumi, who controls the power of fire and ice. She can shoot two chained stars that return for new attacks and damage on the way back. Her Super slams the ground with a stunning effect on opponents. I remember thinking that Lumi would be a nightmare in the right hands.

Skins, Skins, and More Skins

The Dark Sands season brought a treasure trove of cosmetics. Mummified Frank was the new Brawl Pass skin, requiring the Premium Pass and 50 tiers to unlock. Charcoal Frank and Papyrus Frank were Brawl Pass Premium Plus skins. New brawlers also got skins: Queen Juju, Mystic Meeple, and Pharaollie appeared in the Brawl Shop.

The Dark Sands key visual captured the mood perfectly. I loved how Supercell mixed ancient Egyptian motifs with the game's signature chaos.

Gameplay Changes and Hypercharges

In addition to cosmetics, Dark Sands brought interesting changes. Twelve new Hypercharges arrived for Carl, Mandy, Hank, Bo, Bea, Meg, Mr. P, Buster, Chester, Lola, Grom, and Sam. Trio Showdown became a permanent game mode. A mini-event collaboration with the card game Uno also landed. I spent way too many matches trying to master those new Hypercharges.

Pro Pass and Ranked Rewards

As revealed earlier, Brawl Stars got the new Pro Pass system to reward Ranked players. One of the new features was Pro skins, which players could upgrade to receive new visual features and cosmetic items. The first-ever Pro skin was for Colt: Astral Colt.

The game also offered a new type of battle pass specifically for Ranked matches. Alongside this, the very Ranked system continued to evolve. I was happy to see more reasons to grind those competitive matches.

Competitive Scene: Brawl Cup 2025

The competitive side was active too. The Brawl Stars Championship 2025 had its first monthly Finals event, with matches in four main regions. The Brawl Cup 2025 was the first offline tournament, happening in May. Pro teams had to qualify from a series of regional tournaments. As a fan, I followed every match and dreamed of seeing my favorite teams clash on stage.

My Final Thoughts

Looking back from 2026, the Dark Sands season feels like a turning point. It gave us Finx, Lumi, a ton of Hypercharges, and the first Pro skin. It also proved that Brawl Stars could mix ancient mythology with fast-paced mobile action. The title of that Brawl Talk suggested a new brawler would join the roster, and it would be the best ever. Intriguing, was it not? Ollie was the latest character before this update, and surprisingly, he was not as overpowered as many new brawlers are. Perhaps the developers wanted to return to their previous track. If Anubis really joined Brawl Stars, this Egyptian god of the underworld may come broken, to bring you many victories. Instead, we got Finx and Lumi, and I could not be happier.
