I still remember the first time Lumi’s morning star whipped past my ear in Brawl Stars. It was early 2025, and I had just unlocked her on Starr Road after saving 1,900 Credits. I thought she was just another Mythic damage dealer with a flashy weapon. I was wrong. Lumi turned out to be one of those brawlers who makes you rethink every bush, every wall, and every retreat. Now, in 2026, after countless matches, I can say she is still one of my favorite picks when I want to control space and punish careless enemies.

Lumi’s story is simple and strange: she traded her drumsticks for morning stars, the medieval club-like weapons. Instead of playing drums, she throws those stars across the map, pulls them back, and smashes the ground with magical force. She is a Mythic-rarity Damage Dealer, and her kit is built around ice and fire. The ice empowers her main attack, while fire fuels her Super. It is a weird combination, but in Starr Park, weird usually means dangerous.

Main attack and Super: ice out, fire in

Her main attack is the tricky part. Lumi throws her morning stars forward, and they return to her like a boomerang. They damage enemies on the way out and on the way back. That return path is where a lot of her power lives, but it is also where beginners struggle. I cannot count how many times I have watched my stars fly past an enemy, only for them to step aside on the return. When the ice magic connects, though, the damage is devastating. Her shots cover a long distance, and running away is not always an option.

Her Super is a ground smash that triggers explosions around the impact. Fire is the strength behind it, so it can burn groups and punish anyone who clusters up. In Gem Grab, I love waiting for the enemy team to group around their gem carrier, then dropping the Super right in the middle. If they are not careful, the carrier disappears before they can react.

Star Powers and Gadgets

Like every brawler, Lumi has two Star Powers and two Gadgets. I have tested all of them, and the differences matter.

Ability Name What it does
Star Power 1 42% Burnt When Lumi uses her Super, it burns an area around the main explosion.
Star Power 2 Half-Time The returning morning stars slow down opponents on hit.
Gadget 1 Hit the Lights Lumi can ignite her morning stars when they are on the ground, dealing fire damage to nearby opponents.
Gadget 2 Grim And Frostbitten The morning stars on the ground are surrounded by frozen wind, making the area slippery.

My best build for Lumi

After a lot of trial and error, my go-to build is 42% Burnt and Hit the Lights. This setup boosts her damage in team fights and helps her reach opponents who try to escape the returning morning stars. The burn from the Super makes crowded objectives miserable for the enemy, and Hit the Lights gives me a way to punish anyone who thinks they can safely stand near my grounded stars.

For Gears, I usually run Speed and Damage. Speed helps me position for both the initial shot and the return, which is crucial because Lumi lives and dies by her angles. Damage simply intensifies her main strength: deleting squishy targets before they can close the gap.

Some players prefer Half-Time, because slowing enemies after the stars return can make them vulnerable. The idea is great, but it requires skill. Landing the returning hit is not easy, so the Star Power may not help every player. The same goes for Grim And Frostbitten. Slippery ground needs precise follow-up actions. Increasing raw damage is more straightforward, and I like straightforward when I am trying to climb.

How I actually play her

A damage dealer with far-reaching projectiles is a formula that works well in Brawl Stars, and Lumi excels at both range and damage. Her morning stars hit hard, and they cover an impressively big distance. It is difficult to simply run away from them. But she is limited by the number of shots, and the returning routes are obvious. Smart opponents can avoid the back hit, so I have to be agile with my movements.

Here is what I focus on:

  • Look for the best positions for the initial shots.

  • Predict enemy actions to land the returning morning stars.

  • Be careful with defense. Close-range opponents like Edgar can destroy Lumi with endless punches.

  • Retreat quickly when a fight turns unfavorable.

  • Use bushes for surprise attacks, but never let opponents get too close.

Lumi is especially good at surprising attacks from bushes. I like to hide, throw my stars through a choke point, and watch the enemy panic. If they survive, I am already backing away. If they die, I push up with my team.

Mode-by-mode notes

Mode How I play Lumi
Hot Zone She is great here. I stay at a distance and cover the active area with projectiles. After capturing the zone, I avoid getting cornered in the open.
Heist Lumi is better on offense. She can aim at the safe and deal a lot of damage from relative safety.
Duo and Trio Showdown I prefer close-range teammates like Buzz. They use the moment of my attack to approach quickly and seal the kill. They also protect me.
Knockout and Bounty The same logic applies. Range plus a close-range partner is a nightmare for the enemy.
Solo Showdown This is tricky for Lumi and requires exceptional skills. I only pick her here when I am feeling very confident.
Gem Grab Her Super is excellent. It can damage opponents when they gather in the middle and destroy a gem carrier quickly.

Unlocking Lumi in 2026

Lumi first arrived on Starr Road with the Super Brawl season, starting Apr. 3, 2025. She is a Mythic brawler, so she costs 1,900 Credits to unlock for free. If you still do not have her in 2026, you can set her as your next character on Starr Road. Earn Credits on Trophy Road by playing the game, earning trophies, and collecting rewards. Character Mastery is another good source: play a specific brawler and earn rewards.

Sometimes Starr Road locks your next choice until you have cleared other brawlers, so Lumi can become your only option. I used that waiting period to stack Credits and practice my aim. It was worth it. Lumi is not a brawler you can play on autopilot. She rewards patience, positioning, and a little cruelty. If you see me in a lobby, do not stand in the open. My morning stars are already on the way back.
